Mars also represents land, brothers and sisters, chemists, fire, anger, and surgery. Mars is known for a long and abiding anger that never ceases.
Drought and fire are commonly his realm of influence and there is reason to believe that the moniker "King of Beasts" was first applied to him. There is also some evidence that sacrifice in ancient times was especially linked to the worship of Mars. Comets also seem to be representative of Mars in most traditional literature. There is also some connection to the Pleiades, which was called Kartikeya in Vedic times.
ASSOCIATIONS:
The direction South is considered ruled by Mars with little exception. The South is also ruled by Lord Yama, the lord of Death. Placing a Mars yantra on the South facing wall of your home will appease Lord Yama.
The year of maturity for Mars is 28 years. The signs Aries and Scorpio are considered under the rule of Mars while his fall is in the sign Cancer. Hanuman, the word means large jaws, is a monkey, an ardent devotee of Rama. He is also known as ‘Pavanputra’ which means the son of wind (pavan, vayu). His other names are ‘Anjaneya’ from Anjana, a female monkey, Vajra anga bali which means “body as strong as diamond”, Sankatmochan which means “one who clears all troubles”, Vir Hanuman which means “one who has tremendous strength”.
Hanuman played a crucial role in Ramayana and stood beside Ram and Bharat to give a fight against Ravana and free Sita from the clutches of the demon king Ravana who had captured her.
.Hanuman is said to have freed the nine planets from Ravana’s hold. It is said ‘Manghalvar’ (Tuesday) is sacred to mars. Manghal means auspicious and sacred to Hanuman. Devotees therefore believe that by praying to Hanuman on Tuesday, the inauspicious effects of Mars are overcome. By freeing Mars, Hanuman proved that he was the strongest of the two. Devotees pray to Hanuman for the courage to fight against all odds and to brush away their troubles.
